Harold Camping was wrong again as we here said he would be, and hopefully this will be his last prognostication. May we be reminded of the scripture that speaks to this type of thing precisely.
We all know of the times in scripture where Jesus said no one can know the day or hour of his return such as Matthew 24:36, and we know of others such as Matthew 24:33, "So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors", telling us we know the general time frame. To some these two passages may seem contradictory, but we know they are not. Like other scriptural truth, they form a bigger more complete picture, because all scriptural truth is line upon line and precept upon precept.
But possibly more important than these, because of the times we are witnessing, is Luke 21:8, where Jesus said, "Be careful so you are not fooled. Many people will come in my name, saying, 'I am the One' and, 'The time has come!' But don't follow them".
This speaks of the date setters specifically. And what did Jesus tell us to do when someone tells us "the time has come" He said: Don't follow them! Jesus was pretty clear here, don't you think?
Another false Christ claiming to be Jesus from Austrailia has also surfaced, his website is: http://www.divinetruth.com/# These recent false prophets, false Christ's and teachers are amazingly making Jesus prophecy even more incredibly important, as they are showing how close we are to the actual return of Jesus just as he said. So these most recent fools, are ushering the events foretold so long ago right before our eyes. We are the generation that will see the end of all things. I don't think it's a problem saying we think Jesus may come in the spring or the fall of a particular year, even this year, as I also think he is coming this year, but naming the day we think Jesus may be coming and or saying "the bible guarantees it", as Camping is saying, puts us above Jesus and we can't do this.
Also if the day comes and goes, how many who may be weaker in the faith, will lose their faith altogether? Don't we also have at least some responsibility to being the keepers of the integrity of the Kingdom?
What persecution and level of scoffing will now come to us after May 21st? Won't this increase? Or might the world become even more hard and cold to the Gospel in general along with the scoffers voice growing louder. This seems likely. The bulletin boards and who knows what other mediums are being used will be a standing mockery to all Christians especially here in America until when and if, they are changed to something else. And of course Harold Camping has predicted already another date of Oct.21,2011. It's unfathomable that anyone would follow him now, but they will.
But also this passage in Luke 21:8 is also telling us to look for Jesus by following the signs in scripture, not the signs that some are telling us are signs, but the clear signs that are easy to identify. We don't need to be following men, no matter how sincere they may seem. We only need the spirit of truth, scripture and Jesus.
We probably know that one of the biggest and latest signs is certainly Sept. when the UN is committed to forcing Israel to giving up half Jerusalem to the Palestinians, so then do we really need someone telling us when they think the day is, when we know it's not going to be that day anyway?
If Jesus were here in the flesh right now do we actually think he would be alright with some who try and defy his own words, which tell us no one can know the day? He can't know the day, but Joe Shmo can? I know that some want to think that Jesus probably knows the day now that he is in heaven, but there is no scriptural proof of even that.
We were told by the way to calculate the number of the beast in Revelation 13:18, but does that also extend to the Rapture? I don't think so. In fact we don't see anywhere in scripture to also calculate the date of the Rapture, instead it's just the opposite.
Jesus gave detailed accounts of what would be happening before he Raptures his followers, but he didn't know the day? Yes that's right, because he said so. And you know what, it appears Jesus was ok with trusting his father with that information.
He also said in Acts 1:8, when his followers again asked him if he would give the kingdom back to Israel at that time, that they could not know that either, because the father set those dates as well.
Do you think Jesus was ok with this? Of course he was,complete trust that when the time was right he Jesus would also find out these things, but until he did or does, it appears Jesus was and probably is ok with not knowing the exact day himself. So why can't we be ok with this?
