| Don't judge me I am not perfect yet. There is some truth in this statement, in fact it comes from the bible. Jesus said judge not lest ye be judged in Matt 7: 1-5 as well as saying how you judge others will be the same way you are judged, but the fact that someone would even say don't judge me is because they have some sin that they are trying to hide, cover up or make an excuse for. If we were not guilty, we would say go ahead and judge away because you are not going to find anything anyway. This is actually the posture a real Christian is supposed to take and real Christians should not be offended by this at all, but instead they welcome it. Some say you can judge, but you have to be careful, but it also depends on who you are talking about. In 1 Cor chapter 5, Paul talks about judging the sinning Christian and even expelling them from the church if they don't repent, but then on the other hand, he says we are not to judge the non-Christians because thats God's job. The reason Jesus said don't judge is because none are righteous enough to judge as he is and he was speaking about things spiritual not judicial ie: in a court of law etc. There is another reason he said not to judge and that is because along with judgment comes condemnation and sentencing. That's ok in a court of law were a perpetrator of the law is going to go to prison etc., but among Christian brethren we are to be looking to forgive and restore where possible not sentence and or condemn unless they won't repent. HOWEVER, reproof, rebuke and pointing out sin in a Christians life, not for condemnation, but to help them come back to the truth is in fact exactly what we are supposed to do. Jesus was always about forgiveness and if we are to be like him that's what we are to be about, not to condone the sin or the lifestyle that may be produced from that sin, but help a person to confession and repentance of the sin. It's always about this. ALWAYS. Another thing is, it's about the love. The greatest commandment is that we love the Lord our God with everything we have and the 2nd greatest is to love or neighbor as ourself. If we are judging them we aren't loving them. But think about this if you have kids. You tell your child not to put their hand on a hot stove, why? because it will hurt them and you love them and don't want to see them get hurt. Same thing here. We need to tell others to stop the sinning because it hurts and leads to spiritual death, but at the same time we have to be careful not to condemn or give up on anyone. Usually when someone judges another it is so they can give up on them and turn their back on them and for a real Christian this can't be condoned. That does not mean if someone is wreaking havoc in a church or living in sin they are not to be called out for it. The biblical discipline for such is as follows: In Matthew 18, Jesus said: "If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses'. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or tax collector." (Mt 18:15-17). |
